This BMW S14 inline-four was rebuilt by the seller’s shop, Lang Racing Development of Lake Forest, California, in 2021 to displace 2.7 liters for a 1988 BMW M3 race car. The seller states the engine and included Getrag transmission were installed for 4,958 miles before they were removed and stored in favor of an S54 engine. The total scope of rebuild work is outlined in a three-page estimate in the gallery, totaling just over $30k. This S14 inline-four and Getrag gearbox are offered at no reserve in California.
This build reportedly used a cast-iron S14B25 EVO3 block fitted with oil squirters. A Pure Performance Motorsport Racing 2.7L 95mm stroker kit with forged pistons, H-beam connecting rods, and a 95mm-stroke, 4340 alloy-steel billet crankshaft were installed during the build. Additional details include dual overhead Schrick camshafts, an aluminum cylinder head with 16 valves, a valve cover with “BMW M Power” lettering, throttle bodies honed to 48mm to match the intake size, and a custom, internally-baffled wide oil pan.
