Porsche 912 1.7L Performance Engine | Type 616/40 | 1,720cc Big-Bore | Dellorto Carburetors | VW Adapter

This Porsche Type 616/40 flat-four engine was originally produced for a 1969 Porsche 912 and was rebuilt by the seller in 1992 to displace 1,720cc using a big-bore kit. After the rebuild, the engine was installed in a 1966 Volkswagen Microbus, where it accumulated approximately 22,000 miles before being removed in 1998 following damage to the vehicle. It has been in dry storage since.

During the rebuild, the factory crankshaft was retained, while the camshaft and bearings were replaced. The compression ratio was increased to 8.5:1, and the engine was fitted with Dellorto dual carburetors, a Bosch ignition coil, and a black-finished fan shroud. Additional equipment includes an exhaust system, distributor, cooling fan, and an aftermarket flywheel designed to mate the engine with a Volkswagen Type 1 transaxle. The engine case is plumbed for a full-flow oil filter kit, though the filter itself is not included.

Case stamping ☆4093113☆ confirms this is a Type 616/40 flat-four originally produced for a 1969 Porsche 912 destined for the U.S. or Canadian markets.
